What does the Costa Rica Unbound experience cost?
Costa Rica Unbound (CRU) is unlike other motorcycle tour companies, we provide not only incredible riding trips but amazing adventure activities and unparalleled accommodations and logistics. Tour pricing is customized based on the number of days, riders, activities, month, and total guests. As an example, most of our clients prefer the premium package; a 6-day tour for $4,000. This adventure includes all of the following: Up to five (5) riding days (2007 WR250F or 450F, fuel, guides), access to our private Mark Peters-built motocross track, first-class ocean front accommodations at the Marea Brava (2 bedroom suites, kitchen, dining, family rooms) access to our private motocross track, two meals per day, one "activity" per day, laundry service, guidebook, all tour and activity logistics and shuttle services. Of course, it also includes the famous ride from the airport to the beach the day you arrive, and back if you're up for the challenge before your flight home!
Does CRU offer group discounts?
Yes. The premium package for example, which includes the 6-Day tour, at certain times of the year, starts as low as $3,000 per person if four or more riders are in the group. Additionally, longer tours and/or repeat CRU customers are eligible for greater discounts. Corporate events such as the Yamaha Press Introduction and other Motorcycle Industry businesses are encouraged to call and discuss additional possibilities.
What’s the best way to estimate tour costs?
Our tours are unique, as they focus on your ideal vacation. Costa Rica Unbound offers more than incredible riding, therefore, we need to learn more about you and your group and what other activities are of interest. Please call us at 877 TOUR- CRU or email the best number/time to reach you and we can learn more to more accurately confirm pricing.
How can I contact Costa Rica Unbound?
Emails are the quickest and easiest way to ask questions, confirm events, times, etc, it’s also the most effective way to confirm and update logistics. Our email address is info@costaricaunbound.com or reservations@costaricaunbound . Our phone is
877-TOUR-CRU (877-868-7278).
What is included in the Costa Rica Unbound tour price?
The CRU tour includes a 2-bedroom suite at the Marea Brava resort, two meals a day, one additional “activity” per person, per day, shuttle service, laundry service, guides, all activity planning and logistics, a private MX track, and the best bikes (2007 WRs), riding and scenery in the world.
What else does the Marea Brava resort have to offer?
The Marea Brava has two pools, a bar area, Hi-Speed Wireless internet connection and is your home base for all adventures. Activities we offer are minutes from the Marea Brava; we don’t put you in shuttle for hours on end, its all out our front door. In addition, every condo has a full kitchen, stove, microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot, oven and dishes. Many guests visit the grocery store and stock up a weeks worth of dinners, snacks and drinks. Though the condo’s offer large dining and family rooms many guests prefer to make their own dinner a few nights and enjoy it on the balcony above the sand. We also have laundry service, set your drenched gear in the hamper and it will be cleaned, folded and on your bed the next day.
What is included when it says “activity”?
CRU adventure continues long after you get off the WRs. Activities include, but are not limited to, surfing, horseback riding, massages, wave runners, golf, butterfly farm tours, crocodile tours, ATVs, canopy tours, tow-in surfing, mountain biking. Keep in mind, you do not take your wallet back out, this is all included and we arrange all logistics! Just tell us the activity and preferred time and we’ll have the shuttle van waiting near the lobby.
Does Costa Rica Unbound offer one-day riding trips?
At this time, no. You must book a tour with Costa Rica Unbound in order to ride the 2007 Yamaha WRs. We do not allow “walk-up” tourists to rent our bikes.
If I bring my family what will they do when I’m riding?
When not riding there are countless ways to have fun and see all that Costa Rica has to offer. You can relax on the beach or at the pool at Marea Brava, there are day trips such as crocodile tours, horseback riding, ATV rides, butterfly tours, canopy (aka zip line) tours. In addition, CRU has a dozen surfboards of all shapes and sizes, we offer surfing trips to many famous locations. There are also great waves right in front of the Marea Brava for excellent surfing or boogie boarding. The main town of Jaco is only 4 miles north with plenty of shopping, nightlife, casinos, and poker rooms.
What is the best time of year to visit?
If you’re a novice rider or enjoying the tour with family and staying primarily on dirt roads, March can be dusty. If single track is your passion, March is not a problem because in the jungle, dust is a non-factor.
If you love slick, difficult terrain, September and October are your wettest months, rainy each evening around 5:00 pm. We advise our beginner riders to look for months other than Sept/Oct. Other than noted, Costa Rica has incredible weather year-round.
Why does everyone say “Pura Vida” when they return from Costa Rica?
“Pura Vida” translates to “The Good Life”. It’s a term the local Tico’s use as a quick greeting. Somehow this saying brings back all the incredible Costa Rica memories when you’re back in REAL LIFE!
What if I forget my gloves or any other riding gear?
CRU should have you covered. We own a very small dealership in Jaco named Moto Shop Jaco that we opened for convenience. Riding all the time and buying supplies, oils, parts, plastic, etc., required a 2 hour drive into San Jose. Moto Shop serves as our own personal garage for Costa Rica Unbound and provides easier support for local riders. We have relationships with US aftermarket companies to adequately stock the shop with the latest parts, apparel, and accessories.
What kind of bikes do you use? ATVs?
We have electric-start WR250Fs and WR450Fs. Yamaha visited Costa Rica Unbound earlier in the year and we, fortunately, were selected to guide their 2007 WR Press Introduction. We purchased several 2007 WR250Fs and 450Fs to update our current stable of 2006 WRs.
Our ATVs are Yamaha Kodiak 4x4x, but are primarily for tourists use on small local rides. At this time, because of the challenging trails, hillclimbs, etc. we only offer the complete tour of Costa Rica on WRs.
What kind of tours do you do, one day, two days…?
Our most popular package is the 6-Day Tour, which includes the ride to and from the airport to the Pacific Ocean plus two additional full days of riding. However, our company is called Unbound for a reason; we want our guests to tell us what experiences they prefer. We have lunatics that want to ride 10 hours a day, each day, dragging bikes up cliffs but we also have groups that want a few hours of riding sandwiched between surf trips, sport fishing, or relaxing on the beach.
Costa Rica Unbound is whatever you want it to be and the price is tailored for each group. Our guests can, at no additional costs, bring a girlfriend, wife, or kids as the 2-bedroom condos on the ocean affords riders hours of exploring while the loved ones lay poolside, hit the surf, or visit any of the amazing local attractions.
How many other riders can I bring for the tour?
This all depends on the group. We have hosted groups of ten that we split off into smaller groups, we have hosted 15 for a television program and we recently hosted 20+ for the Yamaha media event. That said, the most ideal group is between 3-5 friends who ride or race together on the weekends and are looking for a new challenge.
Can you customize the rides based on rider ability? Split people up in groups?
Costa Rica Unbound customizes every aspect of the tour. We’re not only concerned with riding ability but how each guest spends time when not riding. We have the condo, we have the toys, we know the area, let us know the challenge and we’ll do our job to deliver.
How long are the rides?
How strong is your body? We’ve had guys like Jimmy Lewis, Ricky Johnson, Mike Metzger, and Danny LaPorte that want to ride from sunrise to sunset and we’ve had corporate executives that want an intense 2-3 hour loop followed by hours in the hammock on the beach. It’s always your call.
How are the medical facilities in the area?
The medical facilities are first rate. Baylor University has a hospital in San Jose, there is a newer facility in Jaco, and a brand-new medical facility in the Marriot’s ‘Los Suenos’ community. In addition, we have an EMT and satellite phones in case we have any issues in the jungle.
